ModelMark ultra-thin media : create transfer graphics for tires

It’s like a “tattoo” for tires that looks painted on!

• Ultra thin – only 8 microns thick (1/3 of a mil)

• Two different adhesives available: for hard surfaces, and for rubber transfer graphics for tires

• Specially made for the Gerber Edge®

• Excellent for tamper evident markings

ModelMark with RubberMark adhesive is a revolutionary ultra-thin material that allows you to create transfer graphics for tires (rubber) and just about anything else. Create a tattoo for tires! This is not an ordinary tire sticker: print in reverse on this crystal clear transfer media, and then apply transfer adhesive formulated for your need. Metallic, glitter, multiple colors, get creative! When you apply the graphic, there is no film… just the colored foil, which becomes part of the adhesive. Are you creating custom transfer graphics for tires or rubber boats? Choose RubberMark™ adhesive for transfers that will last, even under abusive conditions.

Use ModelMark™ To Customize Just About Anything

Perhaps you want to customize a hard surface, such as a bike frame or pool cue. ModelMark™ with ModelMark adhesive will be practically invisible and ready to clear-coat. Similar in concept to “WaterSlide,” ModelMark is more durable and not brittle, making application easier and more manageable. Since there is no physical film to get under, water, air, and dirt can’t peel it off. We recommend you speak with one of our in-house Gerber Specialists to guide you to the best adhesive choice for your need. Kits are also available to ensure that you get adhesive that is compatible with ModelMark at the best possible price.

Overview

Once printed, the appropriate adhesive for the surface can be laminated to the printed side to construct a graphic transfer. We recommend you cut on both sides, with the adhesive side bigger, if you are going to ship the graphics. If you are going to apply them yourself, you only have to cut one side.

The flower in the picture below was applied to the textured part of the tire. This is what it looked like after it was driven on a 1,200 mile trip from Chicago to Alabama and back. The logo on the MX tire was taken for an 8 hour enduro ride and remained completely intact. According to the rider, the tire had very little tread left.

Removing Transfer Graphics for Tires

To remove ModelMark with RubberMark PSA, we recommend using a pressure washer (carefully so as not to cut the tire).

Shelf Life 1 years stored at 70º F & 50% RH
Adhesive Properties N/A
Service Temperature Range Has not been fully tested.
Minimum Application Temp. Depends on the adhesive.

Recommended Application Techniques: Follow instructions on spec sheet and see video for help. Experimentation may be necessary. The adhesive chosen must have a stronger bond to the surface being applied to than the ModelMark coating has to the polyester carrier.

The tires featured on this site and in the video had an average of a 5-10 minute cure time from the time we applied them until the polyester liner was removed, completing the transfer. Cleaning the surface with alcohol also helps to dry the surface you are going to apply the RubberMark adhesive to.

Tension is needed to help the material run through the Edge. The polyester liner is necessarily thin and will likely wrinkle when rewinding if tension is not used to pull the material through. GMS Heavy Duty re-winders are highly recommended.

Recommended Transfer Adhesives

ModelMark adhesive is the first of the adhesives to be developed for ModelMark Transfercoat. This adhesive is very thin at only 1 mil, and it comes on two polyester liners. This helps insure a smooth surface without wrinkles or bubbles. It is intended to be used on hard painted surfaces, and lends itself to clear coating because it is so thin and smooth.

RubberMark is the adhesive for tires and other rubber surfaces you may want to stick to. Armor-all and other oil based products should not be used. Clean the surface with alcohol first before applying. Depending on the make of the tire, it may take some time for it to for a strong enough bond to fully transfer the graphic.
